I’m with some of these friends and some gay friends of friends.

I’m about to start my junior year of college and as far as I know I’m straight and all my friends are straight. I don’t know, am I crazy? Overreacting? How can I actually enjoy myself in a gay club? Do I even have to like gay clubs? A: Even my queer friends don’t get why it bothers me so much to see straight women there. It felt a bit like everyone there was a gay man or a straight woman, and I feel crazy for finding that really frustrating. Ok, so this past week I went to a gay club in downtown Toronto for the first time (I turned 19 during the pandemic, so I haven’t been able to go out until now) and I was expecting to have a grand old time where I felt super at ease and like I was surrounded by other queer people, and instead I felt super worried that I was somehow doing it wrong or that all the women/femmes who were there weren’t queer to begin with.

Masculine gay men are capable, active, and “do-ers.” They can do various things from repairing a car, riding a motorcycle, or playing sports, to activities like watching the game with the guys, being a good uncle, or to volunteering at a community organization or church.Masculine gay men prefer to socialize with the wider world. Many masculine gay men have said that they are attracted to other masculine gay men who do not feel as if they must socialize only with gay men.Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but an attractive masculine man will have physical characteristics that work for him, and with which he is comfortable. Guys who are fit and trim are more attractive to others, as well. Some like guys with facial hair, and some do not. Physical characteristics that are attractive to other men vary. That is, an attractive masculine gay man does not have a “need” to be an alpha male, or an “A-Gay”. He communicates well, but doesn’t try to be the center of the universe or the conversation.Anything from a business suit to blue jeans, from sneakers to boots (and he doesn’t wear sandals or flip-flops). He wears what’s functional and what works for him, based on where he is going and what he is doing. He doesn’t worry about the latest fashion or what’s in style. He doesn’t worry about what other people think or may say about what he wears or what he does. He is secure, confident, and comfortable in his own skin. So, as a masculine gay man, let me describe what I find attractive in a masculine gay man: I found that very interesting, and a different take on the usual search for where to find masculine gay men.
